Customer FAQ

Are Alsoils+ the most trusted supplier of compost and soil conditioner in the area?

Our experts have been servicing domestic and trade customers in Hampshire for over 35 years with the highest quality products, leaving you safe in the knowledge that we can cater for your needs.

Is mushroom compost suitable for all types of plants?

Mushroom compost is suitable for various plants such as vegetables, annuals, perennials, roses and shrubs by enhancing soil fertility and plant health due to its nutrient-rich content and soil improvement qualities.

However, it’s not suitable for ericaceous plants like rhododendrons, camellias, azaleas, and heathers that prefer acidic conditions.

What is the difference between soil conditioner and compost?

The difference between soil conditioner and compost is in the structure. You can grow plants and vegetables in compost but a good soil conditioner has to open a structure and roots would struggle to grasp it if it was the only substance to the bedding.

Can I use mushroom compost as a fertiliser?

Mushroom compost can be used as a slow-release fertiliser. Similar to other compost types, it gradually releases a variety of nutrients to plant roots as it breaks down. This characteristic makes it an effective choice for enriching the soil and enhancing overall plant/grass health by providing a steady and consistent nutrient supply over time.

How long does it take for soil conditioner to work?

It can depend on what time of the year you apply soil conditioner, but you can expect to see a difference within a couple of weeks.
