Customer FAQ

Are Alsoils+ the most trusted supplier of compost and soil conditioner in the area?

Our experts have been servicing domestic and trade customers in Hampshire for over 35 years with the highest quality products, leaving you safe in the knowledge that we can cater for your needs.

Can I apply soil improver or manure during winter?

Yes. Winter is an excellent time to apply well-rotted manure or soil improver. These materials break down slowly in colder conditions, enriching the soil structure and nutrient content in time for spring planting. Apply during frost-free periods and dig in where possible for best results.

Is bark mulch still effective when applied in winter?

Absolutely. Bark mulch acts as a protective layer, helping to insulate soil, retain moisture, and reduce weed growth over the winter. It’s particularly useful for shielding roots from frost and preventing surface compaction caused by heavy rain.

Will winter products benefit vegetable patches and allotments?

Yes. Digging in manure or soil improver during the dormant season helps replenish nutrients and improve soil condition ahead of spring sowing. Bark mulch can also be used to protect overwintering crops or suppress weeds in unused areas of the plot.

Can I use these products in wet or frosty conditions

While these products are designed for winter use, it’s best to avoid spreading them when the ground is frozen or waterlogged. Aim for a dry, frost-free window to ensure even application and effective incorporation into the soil.

How much coverage do I get from a bulk bag?

One 0.75m³ bulk bag typically covers around 10–12m² at a depth of 5–7.5cm. Coverage can vary depending on the product and how it’s applied—for example, mulch spread as a surface layer will go further than manure dug into soil.

Smooth execution of the transaction and delivery. Very helpful phone call and conversation. Ordered three bags of Border Blend topsoil. Paid by Paypal. They delivered, on the specified date, carefully, exactly where I wanted the bags placed. All in all, a very pleasing purchase. The topsoil was excellent and had been very carefully prepared. No lumps. Would definitely recommend and I will use again. Everyone I spoke to was nice and helpful.

Ordered topsoil on Tuesday came by Friday at the exact time quoted. Was WAY cheaper than anywhere else (by about £15 per bag) and was dropped off via a crane on back of the lorry, not by pallet which most of the other places use. Soil was fine and dry. Brilliant !
