Applied over the soil surface, bark mulch helps insulate roots against temperature fluctuations, suppress unwanted weed growth and protect exposed soil from winter rain. It is particularly useful around established shrubs, trees and perennial planting where additional seasonal protection is beneficial.

As the bark gradually breaks down, it also contributes organic matter to the soil, making autumn mulching a simple way to protect your garden now while preparing it for the growing season ahead.

What is Mulch made from?

Alsoils+ Mulch is made from FSC-certified, composted bark. Its coarse texture provides long-lasting coverage, helping to reduce weeds while giving beds and borders a neat, natural finish.

What are the benefits of applying mulch in spring and summer?

Mulch helps retain moisture during warmer weather, reduces weed growth, and regulates soil temperature to support healthier plants. It also improves soil structure over time as it naturally breaks down.

Where can I use Mulch?

Mulch is ideal for flower beds, borders, vegetable patches, around trees and shrubs, and along pathways. It’s perfect for refreshing garden areas and helping plants thrive throughout the growing season.

How thick should I apply it?

We recommend applying mulch at a depth of 5–7.5cm (2–3 inches) for effective coverage and moisture retention. For best results, clear away weeds and debris before application so the mulch sits directly on the soil surface.

How much does one bulk bag cover?

One 750-litre bulk bag of Mulch typically covers 10–12m² at a depth of around 5–7.5cm. Lighter decorative coverage may extend this further depending on the area being treated.

I ordered a delivery of mulch for my front garden from Alsoils and on delivery the driver had a tricky manouvre and caught caught the edge of our newly laid metal edging on the drive. Accidents happen. The measure of a company is how they react. The driver was apologetic, took responsibility, and briefed the office. When I called them I was passed to Matt (Director) and he took was apologetic and they offered to pay for the damage caused. No quibble at all. We're so happy with the product, and the aftercare we received from this company, that I have just ordered another delivery of their mulch for the back garden. Top product and great customer service. The driver was helpful and courteous ensuring the 2 bulk bags were delivered to where I wanted them. The product (lawn topsoil) was of impressive quality and easy to rake out over the existing lawn and now the seed is taking well thanks to the quality.
