Bark Mulch FAQs

Is bark a good mulch?

Shredded or chipped materials from both broadleaf and conifer sources, make an excellent mulch for use in the garden. These materials decompose slowly making them long-lived, reducing the need for re-application.

How long does your bark mulch last?

Our premium bark mulch and wood chippings will have a practical life span of 4 – 7 years and an aesthetic life span of 1 -2 years depending on the levels of usage.

How thick should you spread bark mulch?

A 3 – 4 inch layer of bark mulch would be appropriate for well-drained sites around trees and shrubs, but if you’re spreading on heavy soils, a 2 – 3 inch layer would be sufficient.

What is bark mulch good for?

Bark mulch is good for gardening as it retains solid moisture, soil temperature and effectively suppresses weed growth. This makes it a valuable resource for promoting healthy plant growth and maintaining a well-maintained garden environment.

Does bark stop weeds from coming through?

Bark stops weeds from coming through by creating a physical barrier that prevents their penetration and growth. This quality makes bark mulch an effective solution for preventing weeds and maintaining a cleaner, weed-free garden space.

Can you put bark straight into the soil?

We would recommend applying a substantial layer of bark mulch directly into the soil for the best results. Adding a generously thick layer of bark serves as an effective way to ensure its benefits are well maximised when directly integrated into the soil.

Does bark stop slugs?

Bark mulch proves highly effective in deterring slugs and snails due to its coarse texture. This quality makes it an excellent choice for creating a barrier that limits the movement and activity of these pests.

Can I put bark on my flower beds?

Absolutely, you can apply bark on your flower beds with great benefits. By using bark, you can effectively prevent weed growth and create flowerbeds and borders that are easy to maintain. Bark mulch acts as a natural weed barrier while enhancing the overall appearance of your garden space.

Smooth execution of the transaction and delivery. Very helpful phone call and conversation. Ordered three bags of Border Blend topsoil. Paid by Paypal. They delivered, on the specified date, carefully, exactly where I wanted the bags placed. All in all, a very pleasing purchase. The topsoil was excellent and had been very carefully prepared. No lumps. Would definitely recommend and I will use again. Everyone I spoke to was nice and helpful.

Ordered topsoil on Tuesday came by Friday at the exact time quoted. Was WAY cheaper than anywhere else (by about £15 per bag) and was dropped off via a crane on back of the lorry, not by pallet which most of the other places use. Soil was fine and dry. Brilliant !
